Standards at a school have "risen rapidly", according to Ofsted.

In a report released this week, inspectors rated Aldersbrook Primary School, in Harpenden Road, Wanstead, as outstanding, having previously called for improvements.

Ofsted had in March 2013 inspectors said some pupils were not making fast enough progress and did not achieve well in maths and English.

But following a visit to the school in December, inspectors said the issues had been addressed.

The report said: “Standards have risen rapidly over the past few years, and are above average.

“More pupils are now attaining the higher levels by the end of Year 6, especially in writing and mathematics.

“Most pupils of all abilities make exceptional progress because teaching is consistently good and often outstanding.

“Expectations are very high and relationships with pupils are a real strength.”

In results released last month by the Department for Education, Aldersbrook was placed in the top ten of the best achieving primary schools in Redbridge.

Of its 89 pupils, 90 per cent achieved at least level four results and 36 per cent achieved level five in maths and English.

This is above the national average of 79 per cent of pupils achieving at least level four.

Misbah Mann took over as head at the school in September 2010.

She said: “Everyone has worked very hard and made lots of improvements over the last two years.

“It is the first time in the school’s history it has been rated ‘outstanding’ so we are all delighted with the outcome.

“Staff really pulled together, they are loyal, passionate and working towards the same ethos which is putting children first.

“I am also really proud of the commitment of parents and governors in believing in me and my vision for the school.”
