Residents are being called to help the council secure funding for the £900K regeneration of a “forgotten green space”.

From today people can vote for what Redbridge council is describing as a “major improvement project” for the Roding Valley through Wanstead.

The project is one of seven that are all bidding for funding from the Mayor's Big Green Fund.

If successful it would see the completion of the Roding Valley Way green cycle route, joining south and north sections in Wanstead making off road cycling possible from Newham, through Redbridge and up to Essex following the River Roding.

It will also see the re-opening of the coronation footbridge, providing easy access for residents east of the River Roding into Wanstead Park.

Finally the funding would ensure improvement works on the River Roding aimed at enhancing the habitat for wildlife and water flow to help reduce flooding.

Redbridge council deputy leader, Cllr Wes Streeting, said: “We are excited about this project as it is a great partnership venture that would see us work together with the Mayor of London’s Office and the All London Green Grid partners, including City of London, The London Wildlife Trust and Sustrans.

“The regeneration of this forgotten green space would benefit so many in Redbridge and beyond, and we would maximise its affect by linking to local projects and priorities.

“I would encourage all our residents to get voting and show their support for this scheme which has the potential to have a real impact on the borough.”

Voting is open until March 2, and you can cast your vote here: www.london.gov.uk/biggreenpoll.
