New low emission buses are to be introduced on a route through Waltham Forest.
Routemasters will be introduced on 55 route, which runs between Bakers Arms in Leyton and Oxford Circus by the end of this month.
Transport for London announced today that during peak hours, 34 of the buses will carry the 27,000 passengers who travel on the route each week day.
Route N55, which runs from Oxford Circus to Woodford Wells via Leyton, Wanstead, South Woodford and Woodford Green, will also be served by Routemasters.
TfL say CO2 emissions could be reduced by around 27,500 tonnes a year when the entire fleet is in action.
However, transport campaigners and group BorisWatch question these claims by TfL.
The group points out that although the buses have a rear door design, most will not be opened during travel because of the cost of hiring a second operative to man it.
There are also questions raised over the number of breakdowns and the actual amount of pollution reduction.
