Walthamstow has been selected as the London location to host the UK’s biggest BBQ and music festival this summer.

The two-day festival in partnership with Waltham Forest council promises a "rowdy weekend of meat, music and mayhem" and will arrive at Chestnuts Field, off Forest Road, on September 5 and 6.

Organisers of Grillstock expect up to 40,000 food fans to visit the festival which features a US-style 'low 'n' slow BBQ cooking competition and a chilli-pepper and hot-dog eating competition.

The soundtrack to the weekend will be country folk, soul, hip-hop, blues, and rock with over 25 bands and DJs expected to perform across three music stages.

Chicago-born chef, author and TV personality Ray Lampe, known in the US as 'Dr BBQ' will oversee the judging panel.

Pale Ale, beers and ciders will be imported from across breweries in Brooklyn and New York.

The festival has been running in Bristol and Manchester for the past six years, but this is the first time it is coming to London.

Co-founder Jon Finch of Grillstock, said: "Grillstock is about enjoying proper BBQ, beer and great music with your friends.

"It’s that simple. We’ve been overwhelmed by the phenomenal demand for our southern style hospitality, so we thought it’s about time to bring our fire, smoke and juicy, meaty love to the people of London."

Tickets cost £30 for the Saturday and £25 on the Sunday.

A Grillstock smokehouse restaurant is planned to open this spring in Hoe Street.
