Two men are being hunted by police after a sustained axe attack in the street.
Violence flared outside Tesco Express in Lea Bridge Road, Leyton, following a dispute in a nearby betting shop.
A man in his late twenties was struck the back of the head with the axe and then repeatedly punched and beaten with the blunt side of the weapon.
Police believe the attackers, one of whom was wearing a shirt undone, fled the scene at just before 10am in a silver car.
The victim required hospital treatment for a 4cm cut to his shoulder and two broken ribs.
Investigating officers have been unable to trace the attackers and are asking the public for help five months after the incident on August 23.
