In a bizarre coincidence a 92-year-old man has died after being hit by a car driven by a 92-year-old driver.

Police were called to the scene in Alderton Hill, Loughton, at just after 6.50pm yesterday evening following reports of a collision between the driver of a black Renault Modus and an elderly pedestrian.

Paramedics treated the casualty for head injuries however reported he was "conscious and breathing" at the scene.

The driver of the car, who was travelling towards Debden, stopped at the scene.

The casualty was transferred to Whipps Cross Hospital in Leytonstone where he later died.

The driver of the car, a 92-year-old man from the Buckhurst Hill area was not injured and was allowed to leave the scene.

The road was closed until just before 2am this morning whilst forensic investigations were carried out.

Police are investigating the incident and are appealing for any witnesses to the collision to come forward and would especially like to speak to anyone who may have seen the pedestrian before the collision.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101.
