A total of £1,300 was pledged to a church “to increase community use” last night.
The money was agreed to be spent at the Leytonstone ward community forum held yesterday at St John’s Church hall, in Church Lane.
The £1,000 will be used to purchase of a cinema-style television for film events, while £300 will be put towards the redecoration of the church.
Labour Cllr Marie Pye said: “We are delighted to put the money towards helping the church which is keen to increase community use.
“It is currently fundraising for redecoration to liven it up and we are happy to put a little bit towards it.”
In the same meeting £500 was pledged to Leytonstone arts trail and £1,200 to Leytonstone Festival.
