Refurbishment work costing a million pounds is set to begin at the Epping Forest District Museum.
The Museum, which opened in 1981, is located in a Grade II listed Tudor town house on Sun Street in the historic market town of Waltham Abbey.
It is set to be refurbished and expanded into the library next door after it received a £1.65million grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
Contractors Coniston Limited, which has previously completed construction work at the Victoria & Albert museum, will complete the work.
The museum has yet to announce the date it will re-open.
Waltham Abbey Library was flooded over the weekend but re-opened on Tuesday morning.
