A commission to tackle inequality in Redbridge is launching this month.

The first meeting of the Redbridge Fairness Commission is due to take place on February 24 at the Kenneth More Theatre, in Clements Road, Ilford.

The commission will be made up of councillors and local community organisations in the borough.

They will consider evidence at a range of themed meetings between now and September to help them understand how austerity has affected the lives of residents and to decide on recommendations to make the borough a fairer place.

The first meeting will be on heath in Redbridge and future meetings are set to cover issues including council services, safety and the environment, housing, young people, and the elderly.

A final report, with outcomes and recommendations to be taken forward by the council, will be made available in November this year.

Labour Cllr Mark Santos, co-chair of the Fairness Commission, said: “We’re really pleased to be a part of the Fairness Commission and pleased that the council has commissioned us to take on this important work.

“It’s really important that local services and organisations are doing everything they can to tackle poverty and inequality across the borough, particularly at a time of drastic public sector cuts.”

People can submit views on fairness in Redbridge on any theme.
