The online crowdfunding appeal to raise £14,000 to transform a playground has gone live this morning.
A group of mothers, the Wanstead Playground Association, is aiming to raise the cash to renovate the playground on Christ Church Green in High Street, Wanstead.
The crowdfunding appeal on Spacehive, which has already raised over £2,500, was launched this morning and will be live until March 31.
The cash will be used to install new play equipment, a toddler-friendly play area, safety flooring, and provide more benches and seating areas.
People who use the park regularly, who spoke to the Guardian in October, said it was "not safe", there were "trip hazards" and the "equipment was dangerous".
The group said Redbridge council would help with project management and installation once funding is secured.
Chair Sarah Boud, 39, of Charnwood Drive, said: “We have had so much support so far and we hope people will continue to help us.
“When completed, the new equipment will last for 20 years, so it will really benefit parents and children in Wanstead.”
