A man was fined £80 after being caught spitting in public.
Police officers stopped the man during an anti-social behaviour patrol on Chingford Road in Walthamstow on Friday.
The fine was issued as part of Guardian backed Waltham Forest Council campaign ‘Don’t Mess with Waltham Forest’, which launched in 2013 in a bid to stamp out so-called enviro-crimes with on-the-spot £80 fines.
Those who are spotted spitting, urinating, littering or leaving dog mess in the street will be targeted.
Speaking regarding the campaign in 2013, Clyde Loakes, cabinet member for the environment, said: “We’re making it clear to people that if you do these things we will catch you and hammer you.
“We’re taking the bull by the horns.”
