A teenager has been charged over an attempted burglary.

Earlier this week, a 58-year-old man was sitting in his dining room, when he heard someone making a noise at the front door of his home in Hazelwood Road, Walthamstow.

As he approached the door he saw a hand reach through the letterbox before the door swung open.

After they opened the door the two men attempting to break in ran from the address, turning right into Blackhorse Lane.

Police were called at 5.15pm on February 16 and began an area search armed with a description of the men.

The following evening, shortly before midnight, officers noticed three males acting suspiciously in Hazlewood Road.

An 18-year-old man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of attempted burglary relating to the previous evening.

Khalia Deen of Woodlands Gardens, Walthamstow was charged on 18 February with attempted burglary with intent to steal.

He appeared in custody at Thames Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, February 19 and was conditionally bailed to appear at Thames Magistrates Court on April 23 for trial.
