A candle will be lit for an entire year during a ceremony to mark the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War on Commonwealth day.

People will gather outside Waltham Abbey town hall in Highbridge Street to commemerate the first Commonwealth day since the August 4 centenery.

A Commonwealth flag will be hoisted on March 9 in memory the people from all over the world who supported the UK in the conflict.

The Mayor of Waltham Abbey, Cllr Ann Mitchell, will then light a candle, which will burn for one year, after a minute's silence in the council chamber.

The public are invited to attend.
