Police are appealing for residents of an estate branded a “dealer’s paradise” to help them tackle the issue.

A 25-year-old resident, who wanted to remain anonymous, claimed last week that drug dealing has escalated at Rosewood Court, in Victoria Road, Leytonstone.

He has lived on the council estate for five years and said he and his 60-year-old mother are living in fear, with up to 100 people visiting every day to deal drugs.

A 64-year-old, who lives on the ground floor of the estate, said empty bags of cocaine are regularly thrown into her garden and the smell of drugs is noticeable every night.

She said the caretaker of the estate is allowed to go home early before it gets dark over fears for their safety.

Police said said measures are being put in place to tackle the problem and called on residents to play their part.

Inspector Paul Barrie said: “We are aware of the residents' concerns of drug dealing and anti-social behaviour in Rosewood Court.

“As a result, we are working with our partners to put in place long-term solutions to these problems which include the installation of CCTV in the area and other measures.

“We are increasing our patrols in the area and are actively working on arresting those responsible for dealing drugs.

“I would ask anyone who has information that can assist us in this matter to contact us.”

Council housing manager, Ascham Homes, said it will not tolerate drug dealing on its estates and had already evicted several residents in the past year for this reason.
