Epping Forest district council will hold its Citizen and Young Citizen of the Year awards tonight.
Nominations were submitted for anyone living in Epping Forest who has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to the community.
There is also a £100 award for a Young Citizen of the Year aged between 11 and 18.
The shortlisted nominations include volunteer Marnie Cairns, 14, from Waltham Abbey, 17-year-old sportsman Daniel Rowden from Buckhurst Hill and air cadet Evangeline Foster, aged 16 from Loughton.
The Citizen of the Year nominations are June Giles from Ongar who regularly cooks for the elderly and Letitia Berry from Epping, branch secretary for North Weald, and charity worker.
Chairman of Council, Cllr Tony Boyce said: “The annual civic awards ceremony enables the council to thank publicly those special residents of our district who always ‘go the extra mile’ and often think of others before themselves.”
“Without them our district would be a much poorer place.”
The winners will be announced at the Civic Offices in High Road, Epping from 6.30 pm.
