Unemployed people in Waltham Forest and Epping Forest could benefit from a £250million project to upgrade a sewage works.
Thames Water has received approval for the development at Deephams sewage works in Picketts Lock, Enfield.
The project is expected to create jobs in construction and administration, with priority given to people living in Waltham Forest, Enfield, Haringey, Epping Forest and Broxbourne.
There will also be opportunities through apprenticeships and an offender rehabilitation scheme.
Thames Water Head of wastewater treatment, Nigel Watts, said: “Getting the go-ahead to make such significant improvements at Deephams is a real boost, and something which will benefit the surrounding area by reducing odour, making it fit for the future and creating jobs, many for local people.”
