A museum refurbishment project has received a £55,000 boost.

The Epping Forest District Museum has been given the money by the Arts Council England, a government body that distributes funding to cultural institutions.

Refurbishment has been carried out in the museum in Sun Street, Waltham Abbey, since the end of January, but a re-opening date has not yet been announced.

The inside of the museum has received a complete redesign and it will be expanding into the library next door after it received a £1.65million grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Contractors Coniston Limited, which has previously completed construction work at the Victoria & Albert museum, will complete the work in the Grade II* listed Tudor town house.

The museum was one of 108 organisations to receive money from the Arts Council Museums Resilience Fund, which aims to help museums become more sustainable organisations.
