A multi-vehicle crash is causing severe delays on the M25.

Police, fire fighters and paramedics attended the scene clockwise at junction 26 for Waltham Abbey, where a six vehicle pile-up, including at least one heavy goods lorry, has been reported.

Six fire engines from Waltham Abbey, Loughton, Cheshunt and Harlow are on the scene and have freed one elderly person who was trapped in a vehicle.

A male driver of a heavy goods vehicle was treated at the scene before being taken to Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow for further care.

A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Trust said: "We have no indication of how many casualties are on the scene.

"There are a number of vehicles involved and at least one patient requires medical treatment."

Two lanes are currently closed and are not expected to reopen until 5pm.
