A total of 220 fines have been issued in a crackdown on drivers accused of putting the safety of children at risk near schools.

Redbridge council enforcement officers, police and a CCTV cars have been targeting offenders during the school run since November last year.

Schools involved included Oakdale and Churchfields junior schools, in South Woodford, and Aldersbrook Primary School in Wanstead.

Cllr Baldesh Nijjar, cabinet member for environment, said many parents were ignoring parking regulations school run.

She said: “Whether it be through patrol or CCTV car we are working to send out a very clear message: unsafe parking simply won’t be tolerated.

“Motorists cannot simply put the safety of schoolchildren, pedestrians and other road users in jeopardy.

“We find that people living near schools suffer most from this as motorists will often park straight across their drive during the school run. 

“This type of behaviour and other inconsiderate parking needs to stop.”
