Four men have been convicted of the brutal killings of two men in Leytonstone.

Today (March 6) at the Old Bailey, the killers of Josiah Manful, 19, and Aaron Carriere, 21, were found guilty of the murder carried out in Leytonstone on March 1, 2014.

Devonte Campbell, 20, Casey Jones, 19, Alex Bernard, 21 and Omar Hassan, 22, were all convicted of two counts of murder.

Baljit Ubhey, Chief Crown Prosecutor, said the victims were boxed in and stabbed 24 times.

She said: “This deliberate and planned attack brought murderous violence to a quiet residential street in east London.

“Josiah Manful and Aaron Carriere were driving along the street when they were blocked-in by four cars which contained the defendants.

“The victims found themselves trapped with no way to escape before they were surrounded and stabbed.

"The attack took place in less than a minute. A total of 24 stab wounds were inflicted on the two men and they both died at the scene.

“This kind of brutal violence has no place on the streets of our capital and we will continue to work with our police partners to bring offenders to justice.

“I hope today’s convictions provide some small comfort to the victims’ families, our thoughts are with them at this time.”

Mr Carriere was described as "a successful drugs dealer" selling crack cocaine, heroin and cannabis on the streets of Leytonstone and, unbeknown to him, was the subject of an undercover police probe.

On the night he died, he had been dealing drugs and may have been planning to sell more because he had four packages of crack and eight of heroin rolled together and hidden in his pants as well as £700 cash in his bag.

Mr Manful had apparently worried for his safety because at the time of his death he had a lock knife hidden in his boxer shorts, the jury was told during the trial.

Two teenagers and another male who cannot be named for legal reasons were acquitted.
