An appeal has been issued after a recent spate of fly-tipping in residential streets.

Redbridge council is calling on witnesses to come forward after streets in Wanstead were repeatedly targeted.

Lorry loads of builders waste have been dumped in the middle of residential streets.

Labour Cllr Ross Hatfull, cabinet member for community safety, said: “It’s disgusting and totally unacceptable.

“We’re not going to sit and watch this happen to our borough, we’re taking action.

“We’ve sent out a clear message about fly-tipping – that it won’t be tolerated and perpetrators can expect to be punished.

“These people deserved to be punished and we are investigating the incidents but we also need the community to come forward and help us catch them.”

The council said fly-tipping typically takes place overnight and in early mornings.

On two separate occasions on February 13 and 19, Nutter Lane and Preston Drive in Wanstead were targeted.

Draycott Road was blocked on February 21, while last Wednesday residents in Malcolm Way woke up to the sight of rubbish in the street.

Cllr Hatfull added: “We want residents help to identify these cowards.

“Maybe you saw the vehicles enter or exit the road?

“Maybe you spotted a number plate or the name of a business?

“Any information you have about this activity can help catch these people and make sure that they don’t treat our borough like this again.”
