A Walthamstow school has been awarded for helping students to get the best out of their time in education.

The Schools, Students and Teachers Network (SSAT) recently analysed Department for Education data on all state-funded schools.

Walthamstow Academy was then identified as one of the top 20 per cent of schools nationally for progress made by pupils between their Year 6 SATS results at primary school and their GCSE results aged 16.

The academy has therefore qualified for an SSAT Educational Outcomes Award and has been invited to a celebration ceremony in London on May 12.

Emma Skae, Principal of Walthamstow Academy, said: “We are very proud of the progress that our students make during their time here. We have stretching aspirations for all children, whatever their starting point in Year 7, and are delighted that this has been recognised with a national award.”

Holy Family Catholic School in Shernhall Street, Walthamstow, has also received the award.

Both schools have been invited to receive their award at a regional celebration ceremony hosted by SSAT at Holland Park School in London on 12 May.

Sue Williamson, Chief Executive of SSAT said the results are “testament to the hard work of students, teachers and leadership”.
