Gang crime officers are investigating shots fired on an estate yesterday (March 19).
Police were called to Silver Birch Avenue in Chingford at around 12.25pm after officers on patrol were approached by a member of the public to say gunfire had been heard on Chingford Hall estate.
A police spokesman said: "A search of the area was conducted and some bullet casings were found in Rowan Avenue at the junction of Silver Birch Avenue.
"A crime scene is currently in place and there are some local road closures."
Detectives from the Trident Gang Command are investigating.
There are no reported injuries at this stage and no arrests have been made.
Gang command officers were called to Silver Birch Avenue in June last year after a 21-year-old man was injured in a drive-by shooting.
Anyone with information is asked to call the police on 101 or to remain anonymous, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
