Police are appealing for help to trace a man who posed as a parking attendant to steal thousands from a pensioner.

The woman in her eighties was approached by the man pictured at Low Hall Sainsbury’s car park in Walthamstow Avenue, Chingford, in December.

He told the woman she had to pay for a parking ticket and walked with her over to the cash machine. He watched her key in her PIN and then distracted her so he could steal her bank card.

A total of £3,600 was spent before the card was cancelled.

Footage released today (March 19) by Waltham Forest police shows the suspect using the stolen card to pay for items at Curry’s in Hall Lane, Chingford.

Police have been asked why the appeal is only being released now.
