Students were transformed into Bollywood princesses, superheroes and snow queens with extravagant hair and intricate make-up as Waltham Forest College students battled it out on the catwalk.

The creations of hair and beauty students and Waltham Forest College had the audience in awe on Wednesday evening (March 18).

This year’s theme for the college’s annual competition was a ‘night at the movies’ with students going all out for the final prize.

Howeverm it was fictional X-Men character Storm who stole the show.

With her long white hair and intricate braids the stunning model captivated the crowd when she paraded along the catwalk.

Hairdressing student, Kassie Lawal set out to create her version of the fictional superhero.

She transformed her model Naomi Alabi into a catwalk replica of the screen character played by actress Halle Berry in the X-Men series of films.

"I watched the films several times to find out Storm's characteristics," Miss Lawal said.

"In the latest film Storm's hair is short, but I decided to go for the big hair look from her earlier films.

"My aim is to have my own salon one day.”

Miss Lawal won first prize in the hairdressing competition for full and part time adult students studying for a Level 3 qualification at the College.

The theme for the show was "Night at the Movies" and students on hair and beauty courses were asked to portray the styles made famous in iconic films.

Fashion student Melanie Eicher had her long dark hair coiffured into a huge beehive, powdered grey and white with auburn extensions woven in and a model sailing ship was affixed on top.

The towering hairpiece was the creation of Bouchra Ait El Bouhali, who emulated one of the elaborate hairstyles worn by Queen Marie-Antionette, played by Kirsten Dunst in a 2006 film.

She won first prize in the competition for full time students studying for a level 2 qualification.

Penny Wycherley, the College's principal, expressed her delight said: "This was a spectacular show. I am very proud of our students and their teachers.”
