A high school has unveiled plans for a brand new sixth form that is set to open in September.

Debden Park High School in Willingale Road, Loughton, released the proposed plans, which revealed the new building will be erected close to the west side of the existing school and accommodate up to 200 students, on Friday.

The plans feature a two-storey building with eight specialist A-Level teaching rooms, a Sixth Form Learning Resource Centre, a common room and study areas.

The school, which has hailed its sixth form plans as “an incredibly exciting time”, is one of four in the district to have been given the go-ahead last year and will assist in offering a further 594 higher education places for students.

Roding Valley High School in Loughton, Epping St John's in Epping and King Harold Business and Enterprise Academy in Waltham Abbey will also open sixth forms at the beginning of the academic year.

The sixth forms will be the first in the district for more than a decade.

Executive Headteacher of Debden Park High and King Harold schools, Christian Cavanagh, said: “This new A-level capacity for the local area will offer unprecedented and unrivalled options to young people in the local area.

“We’re determined to create the best opportunities so students can realise their dreams and build challenging and aspirational goals for their careers and adult lives ahead.

"This is an incredibly exciting time in the life of the school which has gone from strength to strength in recent years.

“A quality education is the bedrock for many people’s lives.

"This new provision for the Epping Forest area will deliver the latest educational resources as well as excellent and experienced teaching staff - all based in a new state-of-the-art building.”
