The two men accused of attacking two traffic wardens have both been found not guilty.

Jamie Mitten, 30, of Bridle Path in Oak Hill, and John Williams, 30, of Malan Square in Rainham, were cleared of assault at Romford Magistrates Court yesterday.

They were accused of attacking enforcement officer's Mizahid Miah and Nazmul Haque after one of them tried to issue a ticket in The Broadway, Woodford Green, on August 20.

London Ambulance Service said at the time that the traffic wardens were treated at the scene for bruising to the face and limbs.

Both Mr Mitten and Mr Williams had pleaded not guilty to two counts of assault by beating at Barkingside Magistrates Court in November.

Speaking to the Guardian today, Mr Mitten said the process had knocked his and his friend's confidence since being arrested in August and charged with assault in November last year.

He said: “We are both so relieved to be found not guilty but it doesn’t take away the fact it has really affected us..

“The accusations made me depressed and I left my job as a builder because I had to take time off from work.

“My mum stopped speaking to me for a while, though I have to say my parents have stuck by me and have been so helpful so I want to thank them.

“It really knocked my confidence and held me back from going for another job, it would only take a Google of my name to bring up negative articles.

“John has three kids and it really got him down, for a time he didn’t leave his house apart from work.

“I had to keep reassuring him that the truth would come out.

“We just want to move on with our lives now.”
