AN exhibition of children's photography at Vestry House Museum has won support from both local groups and the council.

The newly established Waltham Forest Children's Art Project has been set up to with the aim of matching the enthusiasm and imagination of young people with the talents of a professional artist, and was given financial support from regeneration organisation Team Leyton and Waltham Forest Arts Council.

Philippa O'Neill, one of the three volunteer organisers, said they interviewed several artists to find the right one for the job.

In the last project, students were given a disposable camera and asked to make a montage of subjects they came across in the local area.

Photos of trees, local scenery and an old mangle were arranged in a display attended by Waltham Forest Arts Council chairman Tim Bennett-Goodman and a representative from the council.

The group will hold a fundraising morning in the town centre in April for the next set of courses to start in September, which are themed "global and local" to mark the anniversary of the end of slavery.

Courses run from 10am to noon or 2pm to 4pm, price £75 for five weeks. For more information contact Philippa O'Neill on 8520 0268.
