Families say “mini-earthquakes” caused by a road defect are causing their homes to shake.

People living in a section of Larkshall Road in Chingford say the tremors caused by large passing vehicles repeatedly wake them up, cause ornaments and furniture to shake, and have led to structural damage to their properties.

They say the problems started when a section of the road was dug up in 2011 to prepare for homes built opposite.

Neighbour's Anthony Colocasidou, Robert Guy and Claire David say the road surface was left uneven, resulting in strong vibrations caused by heavy vehicles.

However, they claim repeated requests to the council to address the problem have been ignored.

Mr Guy, 43, said he has been raising concerns since 2011.

"As soon as the works finished, the vibrations started,” he added.

“You can clearly see the surface is not flat.

"You hear [heavy vehicles] coming along at speed and brace yourself.

"It is mostly in the mornings and late at night when you feel the shudders and they wake you up.

"They are like mini earthquakes.

"We have asked council officers to come into our homes and experience it themselves but they will not.

"We're not interested in compensation, we just want it investigated and the road re-surfaced".

Mr Colocasidou, 36, said a large crack has appeared in the marble flooring in his bathroom.

"When any lorry or HVG passes, it literally shakes my bed,” he added.

"It is incredibly frustrating for us as we don't want to refurbish everything again.

“It's making us quite miserable.

"Certainly the council should be responsible for the road.

“We just want it fixed once and for all," said Mr Colocasidou.

The council has been approached for a comment.
