SPURS were today refusing to give up on their bid to sign Alan Hutton before the transfer window slams shut a week tonight.

But it now appears the 22-year-old Rangers star's £10m mega-move to London will go through in the summer.

Hutton played and scored in Gers' 6-0 Scottish Cup rout of East Stirling last night at Ibrox and is still believed to be dead against leaving Scotland right now.

He wants to remain and help Rangers push for the SPL title - and his partner is also due to give birth to their second child.

Despite both sides claiming the deal was dead after Hutton snubbed Spurs three weeks ago, talks reopened yesterday.

Spurs' offer - £8m down with close to £2m in various add-ons and clauses - has not changed. But Hutton is believed to have changed agent to Robert Segal, who works almost exclusively for Spurs on their transfer business.

The London giants immediately upped the ante to a basic wage of £33,000 a week - with the bonus of a £1m signing on fee - in their bid to sign Hutton now.

But even that massive offer has so far failed to sway Hutton, who has no interest in joining Aston Villa despite claims today Martin O'Neill may offer £5.5m plus striker Luke Moore.

And, with time running out for Gers boss Walter Smith to spend any incoming cash, a move to seal an agreement for the end of the season was today being touted.

New Spurs manager Juande Ramos would rather have Hutton for the second half of the season.

But sources say he is also content to wait until the summer when his major rebuilding plans will kick-in.

Unless Hutton has a major change of heart in the next couple of days, he will remain at Rangers and leave those talking to strike a deal for the end of the season.

When asked if that's what it would take to alter the current situation, Gers No.2 Ally McCoist said: "I would think so. We have not heard anything from Alan to suggest he has changed his mind."

Daniel Cousin's move to Fulham has still to be rubber-stamped, with the Londoners set to approach Fifa today for clearance.

The 30-year-old has agreed terms on his £3m switch, but has to cut through red-tape that states players cannot turn out for three clubs in one year.

Cousin played 21 minutes as a sub for Lens before joining Rangers for £700,000 in August. But Fifa apply special dispensation in most cases.

Meantime, Roy Carroll today signed for Derby County until the end of the season. Rangers are expected to confirm a new keeper's arrival shortly, with Sunderland's Darren Ward the favourite.
