A man who was put into a coma after sustaining serious head injuries during a mass brawl has been now discharged from hospital.

Around 20 people were involved in the fight outside Villa nightclub in Epping on Sunday March 1, and two people were also stabbed.

They have now been discharged from North Middlesex hospital.

On Monday (March 30) Epping Forest District Council imposed strict new rules on the venue, suggested by Essex Police to minimise the risk of violence.

It has also been announced that the Cottis Lane venue has been purchased by Bavinder Singh, part owner of Wanstead sushi restaurant Sumo Fresh.

No arrests have been made following the brawl, despite external CCTV coverage and ID scanning in place at Villa.

Chief Inspector Denise Morrissey said: “Following consultations with the new owner and director of the premises, we proposed amendments to address our concerns, which were supported by the licensing committee.

“These will allow the police, district council and the venue to have a better working relationship to promote the licensing objectives.

“Our investigation into the assaults in Epping High Street that led to the review is continuing.

“We will continue to work with the council, venue, and others to make the streets of Epping as safe as possible for people who just want to enjoy a good night out.”

Police and council officials will meet with Mr Singh to assess progress during the initial six months of re-opening.
