Police have made a series of arrests after two teenagers were stabbed in broad daylight in a busy high street.

Officers and paramedics were called to Old Church Road in Chingford, on Saturday (March 28) and found two men, aged in their teens, suffering from stab wounds.

London Ambulance Service confirmed a 17-year-old man, who sought refuge in Boots and had a wound to his chest bandaged by pharmacist Khalid Ismail, was taken as a priority to hospital.

Police have confirmed five men have been arrested on suspicion of violent disorder and each bailed to a series of dates in mid April.

One victim has been discharged while the other remains at an east London hospital.

According to eye witness Saeed Akhtar, 28, manager of Papa John's, the drama unfolded between the junction of Templeton Avenue and outside of Ladbrokes.

East London and West Essex Guardian Series:

Mr Khalid said a friend of the injured 17-year-old had "screamed" out for the help of a doctor or a nurse.

He sat the teenager down and wrapped a bandage around the wound before officers and paramedics soon arrived.

A cordon was set up by Boots, and outside of Ladbrokes and Papa John's.

Police have not released the age of the second stab victim or the ages of the men arrested.
