Decades of history at one of Walthamstow’s best loved green spaces is being celebrated in a dedicated exhibition.

A weekly over 50s group called the Lloyd Park Sharing Heritage Group has combined historical pictures and interpretive artwork to create a window into the past of Lloyd Park.

The much-loved park in Forest Road was once the private gardens of Water House, a countryside residence.

Water House was home to the designer, craftsman and socialist William Morris and is now a museum dedicated in his honour and celebrating his life and works.

After William Morris the property was owned by the Lloyd family.

The Lloyds gifted their land to the council, with the condition that it be turned into a public park which was first opened on July 28, 1900.

East London and West Essex Guardian Series:

Historical images of Lloyd Park in Walthamstow will form part of the new exhibition

At the end of this month the exhibition will go on show in the Winns Gallery in the Aveling Centre.

Old photographs, maps and even bottles dug up from the grounds will be included in the exhibit.

Interpretive artworks, animation film, photographs and poetry from the group will also be on display.

Those behind the project, which will run from April 21 to 26, hope it will enable residents of the borough to discover the rich heritage of Lloyd Park.
