The money will be used to provide a new set of swings for the playground and will feature a special plaque in recognition of supermarket giant's support.

Mr Para, said: "We were delighted to be able to support the appeal which is helping to redevelop the much-needed playground facilities.

"We like to think we are now a key part of the local community so it is only right that we support such worthwhile local projects in this way."

Overall, the mothers are hoping to raise between £80,000 and £100,000 in order to revamp the whole playground.

Designs for the new playground will be go to public consultation in autumn and the new equipment will be installed by spring 2016.

Secretary of the Playground Association, Nicola Jarratt, of Nightingale Lane, said: "It is absolutely fantastic Tesco has got involved and wanted to buy a specific set of equipment.

"We were all taken aback by the wonderful gesture and their generosity.

"We've had such positive support - the whole of Wanstead seem to be behind us."
