A community library born out of cuts to public services has celebrated its third birthday.
Run entirely by volunteers, the South Chingford Community Library in Chingford Mount Road welcomed over 200 members and visitors on Saturday (April 11) for an open-day.
The independently-run education hub opened in April 2012 in response to Waltham Forest council's closure of South Chingford library in Hall Lane in December 2011.
To celebrate the third anniversary, its 80 plus volunteers were joined by pupils from Chingford Foundation School, Emma Tozer of Age UK Waltham Forest, Chingford MP Iain Duncan Smith, Reverend Leslie Goldsmth of St Edmund's Church and Waltham Forest police mascot PCSO Steve.

The library expanded its opening hours in November due to growing demand from its visitors.
It is now open from 10am to 4pm everyday, except Friday and Sunday.
