Ninety-per cent of unwanted sexual behaviour on trains, Tubes and buses in London goes unreported according to a new campaign.

British Transport Police are calling on Londoners to start telling the police about unwanted sexual behaviour on the transport network in their ‘report it to stop it’ campaign.

A new, hard hitting, video has been released to encourage victims to come forwards after an unwanted encounter.

The campaign tells the public they will “always” be taken seriously.

“No incident is too small or trivial. Our officers are trained to deal with these sort of cases. We will treat you with respect and dignity."

Officers from the BTP want people to come forwards about anything from people pictures of you to rubbing, groping and leering.

Project Guardian – a partnership between BTP, Transport for London (TfL), the Metropolitan Police and City of London Police was set up in 2013.

A survey carried out by TFL concluded that 1 in ten Londoners have experienced unwanted sexual behaviour on public transport and 90 per cent of incidents are not reported.

A similar initiative to tackle sexual offences on the public transport network in the West Midlands, called Project Empower, was also set up.

Text number 61016 has been set up for victims to report crime.
