Green-fingered families gave a communal garden a new lease of life in Walthamstow.

Children mucked in and helped to plant herbs, bamboo, shrubs and flower beds in their own green space at Hatherley House in Hatherley Road.

Staff from Ascham Homes and partners Osborne were on hand to provide support and advice on how to use drills, saw wood and varnish plant containers which were made using recycled wood and scaffolding.

Organiser Nelia Cetin, Chair of Hatherley House Tenants, Residents and Leaseholders Association said: “The idea behind the event was to get the community to bond and as well as educate.

“It was great to see everyone getting involved and having fun and the garden looks great. Thank you to Ascham Homes and Osborne who donated their time and equipment.”

Neal Allison, Community Investment Manager at Osborne said: “It was a lovely day and a good productive community initiative by improving the living environment, promoting healthier eating, getting the community together with a bit of education thrown in too.”
