The “most expensive house in Wanstead” was put up for sale for £2.65m yesterday.

The gated property in Wanstead Place, with five bedrooms and four bathrooms, was listed online yesterday (April 22) by estate agents Bairstow Eves.

Facilities include a number of remote-controlled gadgets including curtains, blinds, roof windows and even a fireplace.

There is under-floor heating throughout, a surround sound music system, CCTV, garden with outdoor TV and a “bespoke” kitchen.

Bairstow Eves, which has a branch in High Street, Wanstead, called the property an “enchanting architecturally designed detached house superbly situated in one of Wanstead's most prestigious streets”.

Its description reads: “The property offers an exceptional sized accommodation and is beautifully arranged over eight levels with ample natural light throughout the stylish accommodation.

“This stunning house offers breath-taking views over Christ Church Green via a balcony off the reception room.”

The average house price in Wanstead is £452,532 according to Right Move and three high street estate agents confirmed that £2.65m is the highest price in Wanstead, excluding Snaresbrook.

John Wagstaff, manager of estate agents Petty Son and Prestwich, said: “It is in a prime central Wanstead location.

“A house sold for slightly more in Hollybush Hill, Snaresbrook, recently but that was bigger than this one.

“In my experience of working here for 25 years I knew straight away it would be the most expensive house in Wanstead.

“No house this size has ever achieved anywhere near that figure so time will tell whether it can.”

Geoff Horsnell, chairman of the Wanstead Society, said he was not surprised by the huge price.

He said: “I have not heard of any houses in Wanstead at that price before but it does not surprise me to be honest.

“Since 1996 the price of my house in Gloucester Road has increased three or four-fold.

“That price is not something you see every day and it just shows that people see Wanstead as a worthwhile place to aspire to live in.”
