A body found in the River Lea has been confirmed as missing father Ambrose Ball.

The 31-year-old had not been seen since January 24 after a night out at The Fox pub in Green Lanes, Palmers Green.

In the early hours of the morning a car belonging to Mr Ball, also known as Jay, was found on the border of Tottenham and Walthamstow after a serious accident.

Police investigating his disappearance found a body in the River Lea at New Cut N17 on Wednesday.

A post-mortem proved inconclusive and the death is being treated as unexplained.

Mr Ball's family have been informed.

At approximately 3.10am on January 24 Mr Ball's BMW collided with the central reservation in Watermead Way at the junction with Sedge Road, Tottenham.

Police say the car lost one of its front wheels and continued further down the road, coming to rest next to Tottenham Marshes.

According to officers, the driver of a seven-tonne truck stopped at the scene and got out.

He is described as a black man, aged about 40.

The driver of a red Ford Fiesta, described as a black man, of slim build and between 30 and 40 years old, is also said to have been in the area.

The driver of a dark-coloured hatchback car is said to have stopped at the scene and got out.

He is described as a light-skinned black man, about 5ft 8ins tall and aged between 25 and 30 with a female passenger.

Officers would like to speak to any rough sleepers who were in the area who may have seen or heard the crash.

A fingertip and marine search was carried out across Walthamstow Wetlands and the Marshes, but nothing was found.

Mr Ball's mother Ruth previously made a video appeal for information about her son.
