Two men have been jailed after a woman was driven in a cab to a house in Walthamstow and raped.

Mohammed Sallah of Hylands Road, Walthamstow, was jailed for seven years and two months on Thursday (April 23) at Snaresbrook Crown Court.

On March 7 last year, minicab driver Salah Mohammed, 31, of Varley Road, Canning Town, was having his car cleaned in Great Eastern Street, Islington, when he was approached by the victim's friend.

She told Mohammed her friend, aged in her early twenties, had been drinking and felt unwell and asked for him to take her home.

He was paid £10 for the fare and the victim's friend took a photo of the car's number plate, as well as phoning her family to say she would be home shortly.

Instead, Mohammed drove the woman eight miles to Sallah's house in Walthamstow where Sallah then raped her.

After the ordeal, the woman was taken by Mohammed to Wood Green where she was let out of the car and contacted her family.

Mohammed was convicted of kidnap and encouraging rape and jailed for nine years on Thursday.

Detective Constable Dele Bolude from the Met’s sexual offences, exploitation and child abuse command, said: "This was a despicable crime.

"I would like to praise the victim’s courage in coming forward and reporting it to police.

"I hope that this sentence sends a clear message regarding the seriousness of this type of offending and gives other victims of sexual offences the courage to come forward."

Detective Inspector Simon Giles, added: "The events of March 8 last year have had a devastating effect on the victim but I hope that these convictions will give her some comfort and closure on her road to recovery."
