A trio of Marathon runners from Highams Park have smashed their fundraising target for a charity dedicated to fighting childhood cancer.

Two-time marathon runner's Michelle, 40, and Mark Lawfull, 42, of Sheredan Road, and Mary Wilson of Falmouth Avenue all ran the 26-mile race through London on Sunday under four hours and twenty minutes.

Through cake sales, coffee mornings and dinner parties, the trio managed to surpass their £3,000 fundraising target for Children with Cancer UK by raising over £4,660.

The children's charity was chosen as Ms Wilson, 41, is chair of governors at Handsworth Primary School in Handsworth Avenue and Mrs Lawfull ran the London race last year for Macmillan Cancer.

Despite Ms Wilson injuring her back just days before the big race, she still managed to complete it in four hours and eighteen minutes.

Mr and Mrs Lawfull beat their personal bests with times of 3 hours and 35 minutes and four hours and eight minutes.

Mrs Lawfull, said: "Second time round, you learn to pace yourself better and we all trained really hard.

"The weather was perfect for runners but we had amazing support and the crowds were absolutely mental.

"There was no stretch of road without spectators. With music all around, it felt like being in a nightclub."

To keep the momentum going, Mr Lawfull is also attempting the military-themed 10 miles parachute regiment challenge and 'The Fan Dance' a 24km race over the Brecon Beacons.
