Members of the public have been praised for helping a man who was injured falling from his mobility scooter.

The elderly man injured his head when he fell into the road in Mayflower Way, Ongar, at around 8am last Thursday (April 30) after riding on to a grassy verge.

An ambulance crew attended the scene, and found the man in “safe hands” with members of the public and a passing patient transport vehicle stopped to help.

Paramedic Grace Allen was one of two ambulance staff at the scene.

She said: “We were extremely grateful that a number of people had stopped to help the elderly gentleman as he was still in the road when we got there.”

She added: “He was being protected from traffic by the bystanders and he had somebody’s coat on him to keep him warm.

“The man was in good spirits when we got there as those who had stopped had been speaking to him the whole time.

“He was a really lovely gentleman with a good sense of humour.

“Thankfully he was not too badly injured but he had a big bump on his head.”

The man was taken to Princess Alexandra Hospital for further care.
