Snaresbrook Tube station’s staffed ticket office will close on May 18, it was announced today.

As part of Transport for London (TfL) plans to save £4.2bn by 2020, new ticket machines will be installed at the station, in High Road, Wanstead.

The ticket office closures, described by TfL as “improvement work”, are estimated to involve a cutting of 900 jobs across the network.

TfL has reassured tube users that staff will be available from the first to last trains.

With the ticket offices at the Central line stations of South Woodford and Wanstead already closed, next on the list are Leyton and Woodford, which are earmarked for the closure work before the end of the month.

Between July and September, Buckhurst Hill and Leytonstone offices will shut.

Then from October to December, offices at Debden, Epping and Loughton stations will close.
