A former wild horse which was captured following a 10 hour rescue mission is set to be rehomed.

Wilson the horse, who was named by staff at Galley Hill Equine Surgery in Breach Barns Lane, Waltham Abbey, was captured following a 10am to 8pm chase in Gunpowder Park, Waltham Abbey on March 9 which saw him shot with nine darts of ketamine, diazepam, detomidine and butorphanol in a bid to sedate him.

The rescue mission was launched following a series of reports of a horse running wild around the area for up to four weeks and was spotted weaving through traffic on busy roads.

Two-year-old Wilson, who was initially left untreated for lice and worms due to a fear of humans, has slowly warmed to people and is now allowing them to get close.

Epping Forest Guardian:

Staff at Galley Hill Equine Surgery helped to capture Wilson in March.

The colt, who has now been treated, had his feet trimmed and is set to undergo his final vaccinations in three weeks’ time, is set to move to his new home in Breach Barns Lane in June.

Galley Hill Equine Surgery vet, Susanne Troster said: “Wilson has been going from strength to strength.

“He is now letting humans touch him and he is enjoying his apples and carrots.

Epping Forest Guardian:

The two-year-old colt is set to go to his new home next month.

“I am so glad that he is going to have a happy ending.

“He fought off the sedation nine times on the day we rescued him but I am glad we did not give up.

“We are still collecting donations for Wilson’s keep up until he goes to his new home.

“He is a real character and I cannot thank everyone enough for helping us get him to safety.”
