The team behind a fly-on-the-wall documentary about a Walthamstow school has narrowly missed out on a prestigious TV BAFTA award.

Millions of viewers tuned in to watch the series about life at Frederick Bremer School last year entitled Educating The East End.

The series gave an insight into the lives of teachers, pupils and support staff at the Siddeley Road school.

Love triangles, exam nerves and everyday issues facing teenagers drew large audiences over two months, with more than two million tuning in for the opening episode.

Last night, production team Twofour groupattended the ceremony for the House of Fraser British Academy Television Awards (BAFTA).

Educating The East End was nominated in the Factual Series category along with four others, but narrowly missed out on the award to BBC documentary Life and Death Row.

Speaking before the awards, headteacher Jenny Smith spoke of her pride at being nominated.

“It was an absolute pleasure working with Twofour who captured the vibrant, happy and friendly atmosphere in the school as well as the hard work and commitment of our staff,” she added.

“I would like to thank both Channel Four and the production team for shining a positive light on comprehensive education which has also had a beneficial impact on the school.”

This year’s ceremony was held at the Theatre Royal in London and was hosted by Graham Norton.
