The Leytonstone branch of the Royal British Legion organised a march to mark the 70th anniversary of Victory in Europe.

Approximately 60 people turned up for the march on Saturday (May 9) including the Mayor of Waltham Forest Terry Wheeler, pearly kings and queens, guests of honour the Chelsea Pensioners and a regiment of drummers.

The march started at St Johns Church Leytonstone High Road with standard bearers leading the procession to the Ex Servicemen’s Club in Harvey Road.

Ray Gross, Secretary of the Leytonstone branch of the Royal British Legion, said: “We had a great day and attracted a lot of public interest especially when the drummers started off.

“The entertainment was constant all afternoon and evening and a good old wartime singalong was given by the fantastic pearly kings and queens.”
