An 80-year-old woman was saved by police after the tubes supplying her oxygen stopped working, causing her to collapse.

Redbridge officers were called at 12.54pm on May 3 to a house in Snakes Lane East, Woodford Green following reports that a woman had collapsed.

The woman’s carer had phoned the police after she could not gain access to the property.

Officers located a spare set of keys from a neighbour and they found the elderly woman on the bathroom floor.

While the oxygen tubes were still attached to the woman, no oxygen was travelling through the tubes.

They immediately began to administer first aid, placing her into the recovery position.

PC Tasha Winch remained with the woman while PC Ray Wing called for an ambulance.

PC Wing and PC Mike Pilling located a second oxygen tank and connected the tubing to it, allowing a flow of oxygen to the woman’s airways and improving her breathing.

They continued administering first aid until paramedics arrived and the woman was taken to hospital where she recovered.

Police Sergeant Keith Nicholls said: "I am proud of the way the officers dealt with this incident, they showed calmness and professionalism which greatly improved the lady's chance of a full recovery."
