An annual town litter pick is set to take place next month in a bid to encourage residents to be more responsible.

Ongar Town Council will host the first of two events on June 6 in an attempt to improve the local environment which was subject to vandals last year.

The upcoming event will concentrate on the southern end of town and will be followed by a second pick-up in November.

Litter pickers are asked to meet at the Jubilee Park Pavilion in Love Lane at 9.30am and will be provided with cleaning equipment, gloves and high visibility jackets as well as free parking and refreshments.

Town clerk Aimi Middlehurst said: “The town council would like to encourage residents to be more responsible for their own rubbish and not to rely on other people to pick up their litter.

“We would welcome as many people as possible to join us to clean up our streets as working together like this creates a sense of community.”
