Young musicians have showcased their talent after being selected to take the stage with a world famous violinist.

Students from Walthamstow’s Frederick Bremer School impressed a packed audience at the Barbican theatre when they performed at the Music in Secondary Schools Trust (MISST) inaugural concert.

The concert, which celebrated MiSST's launch in six schools across London, saw 450 students from schools across London performing in a range of items in front of an audience of 2000 people.

Playing alongside world famous violinist Nicola Benedetti on May 11, 30 students from year seven were selected to participate in the joint school choir and the joint school orchestra.

Six of the schools’ string players performed Vivaldi’s Spring.

Taye Ellis from year 10 and year nine student Mia Lundie-Smith also performed with the advanced orchestra.

Year seven student Cherie Chan, who was selected to be the Leader of the Orchestra and got the chance to sit next to Nicola Benedetti said: “Playing at the Barbican was a great opportunity especially playing beside Nicola Benedetti and making friends with other pupils from other schools.”

The Music in Secondary Schools Trust is funded by The Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation, The Charles Wolfson Charitable Trust and The Dame Alice Owen Foundation supporting six schools on the Andrew Lloyd Webber Programme on music education.
