Walthamstow MP Stella Creasy has confirmed she will run for the position of the deputy leader of the Labour Party.
Miss Creasy said last week she was ‘open’ to talking about the role, but has now confirmed she will put her name forward.
On Saturday, at the Co-Operative AGM in Manchester, the 38-year-old announced her decision.
Miss Creasy said her work in the borough has encouraged her to run.
She said: “My decision to do this has been inspired by what I have learned working with residents across Walthamstow, and I look forward to continuing to work with you all to secure a better future for all local residents as your MP."
All candidates for the position of leader or deputy leader of the Labour party must be nominated by 35 MPs.
MPs can nominate their preferred candidates between June 9 and 17.
